- Is this random movie generator actually random?
- Within the batch it draws from, yes. The pick uses your browser's cryptographic random source with rejection sampling, so there is no modulo bias. It is not uniform across every film ever made: it draws from up to 20 candidates returned by the current TMDB-backed discovery request for the genre and era you chose.
- What filters does the random picker support?
- Genre and era only. Runtime, rating thresholds, and streaming provider are deliberately absent because the discovery endpoint behind the solo draw does not enforce them, and offering a filter that silently does nothing is worse than not offering it.
- Can I use a random pick to settle a group argument?
- Only if everyone agreed in advance to accept whatever comes out. A draw is a commitment device, not a way to satisfy preferences. If people actually disagree, a room with a stated consensus rule produces a result the group can defend.
- What if I do not like the result?
- Draw again, or carry the same genre and era into a room so more than one person's reaction counts. Redrawing until you like the answer is fine when you are alone and dishonest when you are not.
- Does it tell me where the film is streaming?
- No. The result links to its movie page and shows the TMDB user score. Streaming availability differs by country and changes constantly, so it is only claimed inside a room where a country and real provider filters have been configured.
- Why do I sometimes get the same film twice?
- Because the candidate batch is small and refreshed per request. A repeat means the current discovery response for those filters is narrow, which usually means the genre-and-era combination is tight.
